September was a very dry month, one of the worst on record for San Marcos. Our lawns and shrubbery are in bad shape. Something we’ve noticed as we drive through the neighborhood: piles of loose, very dry plant debris, such as branches, placed very close to your homes. This creates a potential fire hazard, so we would appreciate having it removed.
Your waste removal companies designate a day of the week for pick-up, provided it is placed inside the bin. Or contact one of the local businesses we have listed at the bottom of this post to have them come and remove it for you. Most importantly, please do not burn this debris on your property! This only increases the fire danger for you and your neighbors.
Our fall Garage Sale is coming up in less than a month, on October 31 (Friday) and November 1 (Saturday). Start locating those items you plan to sell (or offer for free). We will post flyers as usual, providing addresses, types of items, days (Friday, Saturday, or both), and times of day.
Signs will be placed at three entrance locations in the neighborhood. Information will be posted on various social media platforms, too. Some of you have been putting free items out on the curb for possible pick-up. As a rule of thumb, if someone hasn’t picked up the free items within 48 hours, it is unlikely they will be taken. Save them for the upcoming garage sale.
Recreational vehicles should be placed discreetly behind a fence or blocked from street view. The various sections within Willow Creek Estates HOA have slightly different rules, so please check the website WCHOATX.com for details. We appreciate you not parking them in front of your home.
Frankly, we are not a recreational parking lot. As you know, homes sell better with excellent eye appeal. There are good examples within the HOA on how to “hide” your boat or camper. Some put them behind a dense area of trees, while others put them behind solid fences.
We are working on a long-overdue annual meeting in a location that isn’t too far from our area. With the loss of two of our great locations, it’s been a challenge to find a nearby place that will accommodate us. Once a location is locked in, we will notify you.
Interested in Volunteering?
The amount of time you can volunteer is entirely up to you — it all depends on what you’d like to help us accomplish. We understand your time is valuable, and that’s why we’re hoping to build a small team of neighbors who can dedicate just 2–3 hours a month.
It’s a minimal time commitment, but it makes a big impact in helping keep Willow Creek a welcoming, well-maintained community we can all be proud of.
If you’re interested in pitching in, even in a small way, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us at Info@WCHOATX.com.
Most of you know that your dues are overdue. It’s only $20 annually, and it’s a great deal. We prefer checks sent to PO Box 1883, San Marcos, TX 78667, or cash, which we will pick up if you contact us. We will provide you with a receipt upon request.
Additionally, you can pay by using PayPal. Even if you don’t have a PayPal account, you can still use it on this website at https://wchoatx.com/membership/pay-dues/#dues-inquiries.
If you are thinking of converting to xeriscaping and plan to use all Texas native plants, some homes have made this conversion successfully. One great example is the Sudela home located at 2641 Oak Haven. It is a haven for hummingbirds and butterflies and is beautiful. The plants thrive with very little water.
Several of our WCHOA members “feed the deer.” If you engage in this activity, please use high-protein pellets or other forms of protein that will improve the health of the deer herds. And if you use watering stations, please keep them fresh because this helps avert mosquito infestations.
If your neighbors do not enjoy the deer as much as you do, please be sensitive and feed them as far away from adjoining lots as possible. In the past, we’ve had deer disappear suddenly because disgruntled neighbors have had them “removed.”
Commercial activity is NOT allowed anywhere in Willow Creek Estates. This is a sensitive subject for some of you, so when in doubt, give us a call and we will provide guidance.
We realize some people “work” from home. This is not the same issue as parking large commercial trucks on your property or on the street every day. Our neighborhood enjoys peace and quiet and does not appreciate a huge truck cranking up at 5:30 a.m. and heading off to work.
There are several Trunk n Treat events coming up before October 31st. Thankfully, these events help keep our children and grandchildren safe. Please check the local newspaper and other media to find the location that’s ideal for you to attend. Let’s enjoy Halloween and be safe, too.
Just a reminder that the SMPD will be holding
its 3rd Annual Community Trunk or Treat
scheduled for Wednesday, 10/29/25, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is made possible through a generous donation from Johnny Homann with CT Electric.
Note: all parking will be in the back. This is new, so it’s important that you use the rear entrance off Wonder World Drive for parking at 1203 Swingler Street. Complete directions
will be posted on-site, and lots of special signage will be used.
There is a new non-profit that’s been established by one of our neighbors, Paige Biersdorfer, on Rolling Oaks. She’s been approved as a nonprofit and is focused on helping young people in schools obtain items that improve their personal hygiene. Please check out her Facebook page, and if you can help, that’s great! Hats off to our neighbor Paige for starting “The Feeling Fresh Project!”.
Thank you for keeping Willow Creek Estates a beautiful, safe place to live, and for being a member of Willow Creek HOA.
